Rafieya’s International Vision and Hope (RIVAH), founded in 2014 by Miss World Guyana 2014 Rafieya Hussain, is a non-profit organization dedicated to combating domestic and teen dating violence in Guyana through the “Shatter the Silence” campaign. RIVAH focuses on empowering youth, providing education on healthy relationships, and supporting survivors through advocacy, resource sharing, and the development of support facilities. Key details regarding RIVAH’s mission include:
- Core Mission: To rebuild a strong foundation of values for young adults and future generations while promoting awareness and education to reduce the prevalence of domestic violence.
- Key Focus Areas: The NGO operates as a youth-led advocacy group focusing on prevention, education, and strengthening support systems for victims of abuse.
- Initiatives: RIVAH has conducted back-to-school drives and established programs to support those affected by violence, and built the Shafeek Khan Outreach Center.
- Goal: To continue the “Shatter the Silence” on domestic and intimate partner abuse, which is often considered a taboo subject, by fostering open dialogue and providing resources.
Guyana’s Rafieya Husain has done Guyana proud by making it to the top ten of Miss World pageant 2014 held in London. This is the first time in 40 years that Guyana has been able to enter the top ten. Rafieya Husain also copped the ‘Beauty With a Purpose Title’, which she shared with India, Kenya, Brazil, Indonesia.
